Persons in Roskilde Cathedral

All of the danish kings and queens are burried in Roskilde Cathedral, this is some of them:

Frederik 7. His speach was: folks love,my strength.
He was born 6.October 1808. He was a Danish king of oldenborgske genus from 1848 till his dead.
Son of Christian 8. And Charlotte Frederikke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He died 15.Novemer 1863 on Glücksborg castle. Married 3 times among other things with Louise Rasmussen.

Frederik 9th:  with god for Denmark.

He’s born 11th marts in year 1899 in Sorgenfri as the oldest son of Christian the 10th and queen Alexandrine.  In 1922 he proposed the Greece princess Olga but the propose got canceled after a couple of months. He was a seaman and had a lot of tattoos. He loved the sea life. The 24th may 1935 engaged he’s in Storkykan in Stockholm to princess Ingrid daughter of Prince Gustav Adolf and Princess Margaretha.

April 16th 1940 only 7 days after the German occupation the pair got their first girl princess Margrethe 2th. They got 29th April 1944 princess Benedikte and 30th August 1946 princess Anne-Marie.

Svend Estridsen

He ruled Denmark in 1047 – 1074. He was son of Ulf Jarl and Estrid Svendsdatter. He was one of the kings that fighting the throne in Denmark. The fight is known as the battle of grathe hede. Svend was king on sjælland and in skåne and knud was the king of jylland. Knud went to Germany and made an army against svend but lost the battle. Later valdemar came and knud died.
He was married a few times but he haven’t got any reel sons.
He was buried in Roskilde cathedral.

Roskilde Cathedral world heritage

Roskilde Cathedral is on the world hertige list because it is very old, and all danish kings and queens are here, and the new kings and queens must also be buried in Roskilde Cathedral, and because it was the biggest church at the time it was built by two and a half million bricks.

It started out as a small wooden church as Harald Bluetooth built in year 980. It was called Treeninghedskirken. However, it soon became larger. The cathedral developed the following years in several forms, and diffrent buildings. You can see what time the various extensions are made because it was popular at the time it was built in.

They are currently in the process of building a new burial palace for the curent queen Margrethe and her husband Henri.

Facts about the Cathedral

Roskilde Cathedral is build of more than 2,5 million bricks.

In one of the bricks there is a paw print. So almost a thousand years ago, a dog must have stepped on a brick, while the brick was drying on a field.
